They love adding new skills to their toolbox at Inman Elementary, and one lucky class of Eagles got a hands-on lesson in building a literal toolbox to take home. The Little Builders Workshop returned to the school, teaching students in the 4th grade class of Samantha Jones to make their own toolbox.

Kayleen McCabe, who hosted Rescue Renovation on the DIY Network for five seasons, joined the class via Zoom and guided the students step-by-step through building their kits.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, both myself and the kids!,” said Jones. “Kayleen McCabe was amazing and energetic and really had the kids focused and engaged the entire time.”

The workshop, designed to introduce students to skilled trades and further their learning in the career cluster of Architecture and Construction, was sponsored by the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia, and the building kits were donated by Home Depot.

Jones hopes the hands-on experience shows her students they are capable of doing anything they put their mind to.

“You can truly be anything that you want to be!” she said. “Some of my kids had the mindset that this type of career field was only for boys. I hope that they take away that being in a career that you truly enjoy and are happy with is very important.”
