Spring Hill Elementary’s well-rounded students are in the spotlight with Suns Shine Beyond the Classroom.
Suns Shine Beyond the Classroom is an initiative designed to showcase the many sports and extracurricular activities that students participate in outside of the academic setting. Parents are invited to submit a photo of their child engaged in any activity beyond the classroom, accompanied by a brief description. The photos are shared on Spring Hill’s social media platforms and displayed on a bulletin board outside the cafeteria.
Once a semester, students are encouraged to wear jerseys, t-shirts, or uniforms to proudly represent the activities they are involved in outside of school.
This initiative was proposed by a parent during a Title I meeting to emphasize the importance of sports and other extracurricular engagements. She referenced her son’s academic improvements since joining sports, as well as research linking participation in organized activities to reduced absenteeism, improved attention and memory, higher standardized test scores, and increased graduation rates.
Spring Hill’s Title I Parent Liaison Cara Colson loves highlighting Suns to encourage everyone to get active.
“We hope that highlighting the students will raise awareness of the various available extracurricular activities, emphasize the benefits of participation, and strengthen the connection between our students and their families.”
