A March 19 traffic stop on Ga. Highway 54 East for a vehicle registration issue ended with two Spalding County residents charged with drug trafficking after Peachtree City police found a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine in the car.

Mary E. Cagle, 31, of north Spalding County, was charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, drug-related objects and misdemeanor marijuana, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Sean P. Smith, 48, also of north Spalding County, was charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, obstruction, suspended registration and failure to display license on request, Fayette County Jail records said.

The traffic stop on Hwy. 54 East near Walt Banks Road came just after midnight when Smith’s vehicle was pulled over for having a suspended registration, police reports said.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesman Chris Hyatt said a search of the vehicle revealed a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

The misdemeanor citation for obstruction came as Smith hindered the officer’s investigation, Hyatt said.

  1. Thanks PTC Cops !
Seems like the methamphetamine comes up from the South, and the robbers come from the North.
Ask our very pro-active new Mayor to post more PTC Cops watching the 74/54 ways in to PTC to continue the good work catching these perfs.
