Kindness Kids look to help

When the holiday break was fast approaching, the Kindness Kids weren’t ready to relax, they wanted to help. The special group of Braelinn Elementary students spent an afternoon volunteering at Midwest Food Bank, processing enough food to help over 7,000 people.

The Kindness Kids are a group of 4th and 5th grade students who live by the motto “Give, Serve, Lead,” and they put it to practice. All together, 31 kids and 16 adults spent two hours processing snacks for food banks to give to families in need.

“The students loved the experience and have already asked for another day to volunteer. It was eye-opening for them to see the size of the warehouse, how much food is stored/collected there, and to be a part of helping prepare food for so many families,” said Braelinn school counselor Heather Wible. “Food insecurity is not something many of our students have experienced personally, so I think it was even more impactful to understand how their time serving was helping hungry kids and families.”
