Tyrone resident Matt Griffin has announced his candidacy for Tyrone Town Council Post 3 and qualified for the Special Election to be held November 3.

Griffin, a Marine veteran, is active in volunteering with local non-profits, fundraising, community service and now seeks to serve the town of Tyrone directly. Post 3 is currently vacant due to the passing of Town Council Member Ken Matthews.

“I’ve wanted to take a more active role in Tyrone for several years, and after consideration with family, friends and supporters, I am enthusiastically seeking to represent the town in our council,” said Griffin. “I hope to be able to bring my voice and skill set to serve our wonderful community.”

After serving eight years in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Correspondent, Griffin began working in Tyrone in 2004. He serves as Vice President of Sales for his insurance agency and works daily with clients to serve their needs and help solve their problems.

Griffin is active in non-profit work as both a fundraiser and a volunteer. He has successfully run a series of comedy shows “Promise You’ll Laugh” which raised over $40,000 for Promise Place to support domestic violence victims, and has been a volunteer with Make-A-Wish Georgia since 2013 and helped to grant over 30 wishes.

In 2018 he founded ACTION Wrestling, a local professional wrestling organization which puts on live events and donates proceeds to non-profit and school groups. He was invited to join American Mensa in 2011.

He is married to Rebecca Griffin, and is the proud parent of Brontz, 5, a kindergartener at Burch Elementary.
