A Peachtree City man has been charged in the Dec. 12 assault of a woman at his Ridge View Court residence.

David A. McElroy, 21, was charged with aggravated assault, battery, terroristic threats and acts and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesman Chris Hyatt said the incident began as McElroy was hanging out at his residence with two women he met.

At one point a verbal altercation occurred between McElroy and the two women, aged 22 and 23, said Hyatt, with McElroy during the altercation brandishing a firearm and threatening one of the women.

Subsequently outside the residence, McElroy struck one of the women in the face with a closed fist, resulting in a laceration, Hyatt said.

A relative of McElroy intervened and encouraged the women to file a police report. They did so the following day and McElroy was later taken into custody without incident, Hyatt said.
