The simple chore of letting a vehicle warm-up on a cold morning resulted in the theft of the car in north Fayette County. The vehicle was tracked and recovered, along with an advisory from Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb not to leave running vehicles unattended.

The incident occurred on Jan. 11 at approximately 7:30 a.m. when a resident in north Fayette County was warming up the car and left it unattended. At some point the subject walked up and helped himself to the vehicle, said Sheriff Babb.

Babb said the vehicle’s On-Star tracking was activated, with deputies subsequently locating the vehicle off Whitewater Place near Oakley Industrial Boulevard in south Fulton County.

“The suspect, 19-year-old Marquiz James from College Park was taken into custody a short time later with the help of our K-9 team,” Babb said. “As a reminder, please don’t leave your vehicles running unattended.”
