Public safety staff responded to a different kind of fire during the nighttime hours Jan. 4 when a fire was reported in the playground area of The Chimneys subdivision on Ga. Highway 74 South.
Sheriff Barry Babb said a call was received just after midnight about a fire in the subdivision’s playground area. He said deputies and firefighters arrived to find a wooden playground structure partially on fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished, said Babb, adding that the door to a nearby storage area was also found to be damaged.
Babb said the incident is being viewed as arson, with the Fayette County Fire Marshal handling the investigation.
