Fayette County early voters turned out in a big way leading up to the Nov. 6 election, with 31,116 in-person voters casting ballots by the time early voting ended Friday.
The Fayette vote count showed approximately 24,000 early, in-person voters by the end of day Tuesday, Oct. 30. By the end of day on Friday, Nov. 2, the last day of early voting, that number had risen to 31,116 votes, said Fayette County Elections Superintendent Floyd Jones, an increase of more than 7,000 votes in three days.
Those figures do not include ballots that were mailed in.
Also on the ballot for Fayetteville and Peachtree City was a “Brunch Bill” referendum that would allow restaurants to serve alcohol one and a half hours early on Sundays. The aggregate number of ballots cast between the two cities totaled 14,884, said Jones.
Compared to the early voting tally in 2014, the 2018 numbers were significantly higher. Jones said it was in 2014 that approximately 18,000 people cast an early vote.
Jones said Fayette County currently has approximately 83,000 active voters.
A long line stretched out of the county voting office Friday afternoon in Fayetteville as polls closed, part of the additional 7,000 votes added during the last three days of the early voting period.

The Fayette County Elections Office was able to provide approximate numbers of early voters who had cast ballots through early last week.
Meanwhile, a long line stretched out of the county voting office Friday afernoon in Fayetteville as early voting ended. Those voters had not been counted in time for this story.

That’s 29 percent of the active voter list, according to figures from Jones. More will be added as those voting during the final three days have yet to be added to the totals.
About 6,000 more voters early voted in recent weeks compared to early voting in the last mid-term election in 2014.
Numbers from Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were not available in time for this report.
Jones said it was in 2014 that approximately 18,000 people cast an early vote.
