George Phillip Edwards, Sr, 96, of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away on June 30, 2018.

George was preceded in death by his parents, G.P. Edwards and Lottie W. Edwards and sister, Charlotte E. Mitchell of Auburn, Ala. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Betty Lacey Edwards; sons, George Phillip (Terri) Edwards, Jr. of Brooks, Ga., Joel Wyatt (Mary) Edwards of Richmond Hill, Ga., Cary Lacey (Megan) Edwards of Dallas, Ga., and William Lynn (Wendy) Edwards of Metairie, LA; grandchildren: Trey, Erin (Nick) Miller, Daniel (Alayna), Ben, Maggie, Anna Caroline, Adam, Abby, Kate, Molly, Christian, Ashton, Hailey, and Larsen; niece Joanne (Chuck) Larmer, their son Scott (Ashley), cousin Homer W. (Bo) (Ann) Whitman, and cousin John (Lee) Tucker.

George was born in Auburn, Ala. which fueled his love for the town and university. He was a 1940 graduate of Lee County H.S. in Auburn, Ala. He was a World War II Veteran of the C.B.I. Theatre and 1949 graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University). He retired from Georgia Power Co. in 1985 after 33 years of service in their marketing department. With his long life, George spent equal number of years in retirement as he did working. In retirement and throughout his life, George’s hobbies included golf and everything Auburn Tigers. He set the standard for his family as a loving and dedicated husband to Betty, father to the boys, and “Andaddy” to his 14 grandchildren. George was an inspiration to all who knew him.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. Interment followed at Loachapoka Cemetery in Alabama.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
