ARC Board approves $11 million in transportation projects across Fayette County

The Atlanta Regional Commission Board on June 27 approved $11 million for transportation projects in Fayette County through 2023.

From a large-scale resurfacing program to trails and studies, the grants will help Fayette citizens get around a little more easily and safely.

Fayette County Resurfacing Program – This comprehensive program will resurface and repair eight major roads in the county: Grady Avenue, Hampton Road, Peachtree Parkway, Robinson Road, Sandy Creek Road, Beauregard/Redwine Road, Peachtree Parkway South, and Tyrone Road.

Fayetteville multi-use bridge and paths – A multi-use bridge will be constructed over Ga. Highway 54 near the hospital in Fayetteville, and paths will be built to connect the bridge to neighborhoods, schools, and amenities.

Planning studies – In one study, planners will look at potential improvements to Sandy Creek Road, Tyrone-Palmetto Road, and Banks Road. A separate study will look at Ga. Highway 279 from the Fulton border to Ga. Highway 85 at Corinth Road.

All projects are scheduled to be complete or under way by 2023, with funding from federal, state, and local sources.

The Fayette projects are among more than 100 across the region funded as part of an update to the short-term portion of ARC’s Regional Transportation Plan, The Atlanta Region’s Plan, at a total cost of $400 million. The ARC board approved the update on June 27.
