Being married for over 40 years, I know Marty Harbin better than anyone, and he is steadfast, faithful, and trustworthy. My husband has walked with integrity in our home, in our business, in our church, and in our community.
We are committed to running a positive campaign, but I cannot allow the false allegations coming from Atlanta special interests to go unchallenged. I am deeply grieved by what is happening. Our opponent has also stated that my husband is an ineffective and self-serving senator. That is totally untrue.
Marty has worked diligently since elected to serve the people of the 16th District, as well as the people of Georgia. His investment of time, energy, and resources goes beyond the legislative session. He works tirelessly throughout the year, always seeking the best interests and highest good of those he serves.
Being in business for 41 years, he has always asked himself, “If our positions in life were reversed, what would I want them to do?” That same thinking guides his decisions as our state senator. His experience allows him to serve effectively on the Insurance Committee, working to introduce consumer protection bills, not self-serving bills as implied by Mrs. Stearns.
Also the tag bill, which has been twisted and used against him, was not in any way self-serving. He had nothing to personally gain from this, other than the satisfaction of knowing that others would not have their vehicle towed away if stopped for an expired tag.
He paid to get his truck back, and he appeared in court and paid his fine. He never tried to get out of anything; he did not believe himself above the law. His call to the mayor was a result of being upset about his property being seized without due process, which in his mind was unconstitutional. He never texted the mayor; that was totally fabricated. Even the date was not correct.
It is easy to be critical when you are observing from the sidelines.
Being in the game, taking the hits, is different. Marty is fighting for our constitutional rights and has been long before he ran for office. He believes there is a reason that our Founding Fathers put the First Amendment first and the Second Amendment second. They are of utmost importance, and they are both under attack.
We want to do everything that we can, while we can, to preserve these liberties for our children and grandchildren and your children and grandchildren.
Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed it on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
Our government of, by, and for the people is an incredible gift, and we do not take it for granted. Many have fought and died and continue to fight and die for the freedoms we enjoy. That is why we stay in the battle; that is why we fight. I say “we” because whatever affects my husband also affects me. We are in this together.
