Edward Riddle Caldwell, Jr. passed away December 25, 2017 in Peachtree City, Ga.
He was born in Gastonia N.C. on July 18, 1943 to the late Edward R. and Vivian Pittman Caldwell. Surviving loved ones are his sister, Sandra C. Wilson and her husband Charles; his niece, Wendy Wilson-Briglevich and her husband, John; and his nephew, Charles Edward Wilson and his wife, Gina; five grand-nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Edward was a graduate of Harding High School in Charlotte N.C., Class of 1961 and received his Bachelor of Music degree from Greensboro College. A U.S. Army veteran, Edward served for three years as a clarinetist in the elite Third U.S. Army Band. Later, he sang in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and received a Master’s Degree from Georgia State University.
Edward’s music career led him to the position of choirmaster and organist in several Episcopal Churches in the Atlanta area. The last being St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan Ga. where he was installed as Organist Choirmaster Emeritus in July, 2015. He truly loved beautiful pipe organ and excellent choral music along with the friends he met along the way, his many family members, traveling, history and good food.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at St. Paul’s, 576 Roscoe Road, Newnan Ga. at 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clover S.C.
