Marian Jeanette Bemis, 88, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017. She was born on January 12, 1929 in Grand Rapids, Minn. and was the eldest of four children of Vern and Vera Hake.
Marian married James “Jim” Bemis in 1948 and they had three children. They lived in Minnesota, Colorado, California, and finally retired to Arizona. She moved to Fayetteville in 2000 to be near family. She thoroughly enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her “great-grands” as she would always refer to them, lovingly called her “GG.” Even in her last year of life, you could always find her at Grandparents Day or the soccer field cheering her “great-grands” on.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Don Hake and Terry Hake, and her son-in-law, Allen Tingwald.
She is survived by her children, Michael J. (Lynda) Bemis of Mission Viejo, Calif., Kenneth E. (Stacy) Bemis of Long Beach, Calif., and Cheryl Tingwald of Fayetteville, Ga. She has five grandchildren, Michael G. (Sally) Bemis of Mission Viejo, Calif., Renee J. Bemis of Newport Beach, Calif., Kristy A. (Peter) Donohue of Hampton, Ga., Jessica L. (Nick) Hause of Lakewood, Calif. and Kelly L. Bemis of Long Beach, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Luke and Connor Donohue, Tye and Mikayla Bemis, Rylee Noel, Nick, and Joslyn Hause. She is also survived by her sister, June Barlage, of Salisbury, Md. and her cat, “Harry.”
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Her rosary will be at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at The Church of St. Gabriel, 152 Antioch Road, Fayetteville, with Father Richard Vu, Celebrant, on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul or The Church of St. Gabriel’s “Forward with Faith” Building Fund.
