After months of practicing and rehearsing their lines, recitation winners from the county’s elementary schools competed in the Fayette County K-5 Poetry Recitation Festival, each vying for an opportunity to represent the school system at the regional competition in January.

The first-place winner from each grade level advances to the Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) Literacy Days Festival Jan. 23-24 in Griffin.

The regional participants are Eli Hancock, first grade, Peeples Elementary; Tony Pack, second grade, Kedron Elementary; Kylan Wright, third grade, Braelinn Elementary; Leila Navarro, fourth grade, Cleveland Elementary; and Katie Rausch, fifth grade, Peeples Elementary.

The judges rated the students’ performances on stage presence, articulation, interpretation, memory and accuracy, and difficulty of the piece.

The students advancing to the regional competition will compete with other county winners in their grade levels from school systems in Butts, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties.
