Fayetteville annexation decision postponed until early 2017

A plan for an additional 233 homes on the southside of Fayetteville will not get a final verdict until early next year.
 
The development on Ga. Highway 92 has drawn the ire of residents who maintain the new development will add traffic and bring a higher density of development to the area. The property is currently zoned for retail and 66 townhomes.
 
Developer Bob Rolader has decreased the number of homes from 285 to 233 and said all homes would be at least 1,800 sq. ft. He also removed the townhouse component of the plan. At a Nov. 16 townhall meeting, Rolader said 233 homes would generate 2,300 trips per day while commercial under the current zoning would generate 10,000-20,000 trips per day, five to 10 times as much.
 
At Thursday’s meeting, the City Council will vote to send the proposal back to the Planning Commission since the townhomes are no longer part of the plan. The City Council would discuss the issue in February.
 
In other actions, the City Council will consider a rezoning for an animal hospital at the corner of Jimmy Mayfield Drive and Bradley Drive. The property is currently zoned Office and Institutional and houses a former daycare facility. Staff is recommending it be rezoned to C-3-Highway Commercial with the stipulations the building be no more than 10,000 sq. ft. and no animals are allowed outside unless on a leash.
