No burning permits due to wildfire threat

Peachtree City and all of metro Atlanta have experienced several days of lingering smoke in the air due to wildfires in North Georgia and North Carolina. The threat of wildfires remains throughout the region until the area receives sufficient rain to reduce the dry conditions.

The Peachtree City Fire Marshal is continuing his suspension of outdoor burning permits (the Georgia Forestry Commission has now stopped issuing burn permits to much of the state, and several other counties, including all of Fayette, have enacted burning bans).

The Peachtree City Fire Department has received many calls asking about fire pits/fire places for recreational or cooking fires. These are still allowed, but residents are urged to use extreme caution if using an outdoor fireplace or fire pit, and ensure it meets the following conditions prior to use:

Have some type of screen to prevent embers from escaping.

Do not locate on or under combustible material, including wooden decks or overhangs.

Locate on stone or concrete away from dry grasses, leaves, and pine needles.

Have a charged garden hose nearby during use.

Completely extinguish fire before retiring indoors (soak it until it is cool to the touch with no embers left burning).

Do not leave any fire unattended for any period of time.
