SMHS band grabs top honors at competition

Earning superior ratings all around, the Starr’s Mill High Panther Pride Marching Band dominated the 21st annual Golden River Marching Festival in Tallapoosa, bringing home some of the festival’s top awards.

The band won Class AA and the Silver Division with a score of 95.17, the highest score out of the 18 bands competing against them. The Panther Pride Marching Band was the clear frontrunner, winning the class championship by 5.17 points and the Silver Division, a combination of Class A, AA and AAA, by 2.5 points.

The percussion also had a major victory at the competition, winning Class AA and the Silver Division, as well as tying for first place overall, with their score of 96. They won their class and division by 7.5 points. They also received the Best Pit Ensemble award in the Silver Division.

The color guard won Class AA with a score of 94, and took second in the Silver Division. The color guard won their class by four points, and they also tied for third overall in the contest.
