Recently I experienced a medical emergency while at my home. Fortunately it was for a short duration but was for me the most intense and frightening moment of my 65 years.
My wife called 911 and spoke with a dispatcher who was calming and professional and gave her some instructions for me. A few minutes later first responders were attending to me in my living room. They were very professional, attentive, and reassuring. This went a long way to keeping myself, wife and daughter calm.
Unfortunately even though four firefighters attended to me I can only remember the name of Firefighter Mitch Andrews. He and I interacted the most and he was extremely personable and attentive from the initial response to the time he and his fellow responders cleared the hospital.
We here in Fayette County are very fortunate to have these very competent professional men and women to respond to our unexpected and sometimes life-threatening events at a moment’s notice.
So a special thank you from my family and me to all of our first responders: Police and fire, EMS.
God bless and keep you all safe out there. You truly show by your constant response to the public’s needs that “All Lives Matter.”
