The fire departments in Fayette and Coweta counties for some time have participated in a mutual aid agreement. Now portions of the two counties will be under an automatic aid agreement.

Beyond the existing mutual aid that previously had the two departments providing assistance when requested, the automatic aid agreement is a step beyond that. The automatic aid agreement outlined areas of both counties where both departments will automatically respond to structure fires within those designated areas.

The two automatic aid areas are located on the north and south sides of the two counties.

The Coweta portion of the north side area includes those areas south of Collinsworth Road and north of Raymond Hill Road/Major Road, while in Fayette it includes adjacent portions of central Tyrone and unincorporated Fayette.

The south side area includes much of the east side of Senoia and across Ga. Highway 85 east to the county line. In Fayette, the area extends to the east and covers portions of Ga. Highway 85 Connector and areas in the vicinity of Padgett Road and Morgan Mill Road near Brooks.

“We reached out to each other and came up with an agreement that worked well for the counties and the citizens,” said Coweta Chief Pat Wilson after being asked about the impetus for the agreement by Commissioner Al Smith.

“It’s a breath of fresh air to see counties reach out and listening to each other. Thank you,” Smith said to the two chiefs.

The automatic aid agreement is expected to enhance the ISO protection class rating used by insurance companies to establish policy premiums.
