Georgia Department of Transportation projects to improve highway infrastructure throughout metro Atlanta continue this weekend, weather permitting. Construction on the I-75/I-85 (Downtown Connector) will require lane closures, which, in turn, are likely to result in delays. Motorists are advised to exercise caution by reducing speed while driving through work zones.
The Georgia DOT encourages motorists to call 511, visit 511ga.org or check the 511 Georgia and Atlanta Traffic app before departing for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
Planned work this weekend is as follows:
Northwest Corridor Express Lanes
· The I-285 eastbound collector-distributer lane to I-75 northbound will close nightly from 10 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday and from 10 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday. Traffic traveling to I-285 Eastbound or to I-75 Northbound from the eastbound collector lanes will be directed to take the I-75 Southbound Exit Ramp (Exit 20) to Cumberland Boulevard. Traffic will then be directed to turn left on Cumberland Boulevard followed by another left to access I-285 Eastbound or I-75 Northbound via the ramp from Cumberland Boulevard.
· On I-285, one eastbound lane will close between the I-75 interchange and Cumberland Boulevard nightly from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday and from 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday.
· On I-285, one eastbound lane will close between US 41/SR 3/ Cobb Parkway and the I-285 eastbound collector-distributer lane from 9:30 a.m., until 4 p.m., Saturday.
· On I-575, one southbound lane will close between SR 92/ Alabama Road and Bells Ferry Road from 8 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday and from 8 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday.
· On I-75, two southbound lanes will close between SR 120 Loop/ South Marietta Parkway and SR 280/ Delk Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday.
· On I-75, a traffic shift will take place on all northbound lanes between the I-285 interchange and Windy Hill Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday.
· On I-75, a traffic shift will take place on all southbound lanes between the I-285 interchange and Windy Hill Road from 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday.
· On I-75, one southbound lane will close between the SR 5/ Canton Rod Connector and SR 120 Loop/ North Marietta Parkway from 8 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.
· A flagging operation will take place on Dickson Road Northeast under I-75 from 9:30 a.m., until 4 p.m., Saturday.
· A flagging operation will take place on Hawkins Store Road under I-575 from 7 p.m., Friday until 5:30 a.m., Saturday and from 7 p.m., Saturday until 5:30 a.m., Sunday.
South Metro Express Lanes
· On I-75, up to two southbound lanes will close between the I-675 interchange and Hudson Bridge Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 a.m., Monday.
· On I-75, one lane will close between SR 20/81/Hampton Road and a mile after SR 155/ N. McDonough Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 a.m., Monday.
· On I-75, one northbound lane will close a mile before SR 155/ N. McDonough Road and Jonesboro Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday.
I-85 Express Lanes Extension
· On I-85, one southbound lane and one northbound lane will be closed using a rolling lane closure between Old Peachtree Road and the I-985 Interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday.
I-285
· Two westbound and two eastbound lanes will close between SR 280/ South Cobb Drive and Paces Ferry Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday and from 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday for work on the Atlanta Road bridge.
· One southbound lane will close between Church Street and SR 10/ Memorial Drive from 9 p.m., Friday until 1 p.m., Sunday.
I-20
· The I-20 westbound exit ramp to Liberty Road will close from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for concrete rehabilitation.
· Two westbound lanes and shoulder will close between the I-75/I-85 (Downtown Connector) interchange and the I-285 interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday. The ramps at Lee Street, Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, Langhorn Street, Anderson Avenue, and SR 280/ Hamilton E. Holmes Drive will close temporarily during the timeframe for resurfacing.
· Two eastbound lanes and shoulder will close just before SR 6/ Thornton Road and the I-285 interchange from 7 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday.
I-75
· Three southbound lanes and shoulder will close between the I-285 interchange and SR 54/ Jonesboro Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 p.m., Saturday.
· Two northbound lanes and shoulder will close between SR 54/ Jonesboro Road and the I-285 interchange from 7 p.m., Saturday until 7 p.m., Sunday.
· The SR 331/ Forest Parkway westbound entrance ramp to I-75 northbound will close from 12 p.m., Sunday until 12 a.m., Monday. Traffic will continue on SR 331/ Forest Parkway and use the eastbound entrance ramp to I-75 northbound.
· Two southbound lanes and shoulder will close between the I-285 interchange and US 41/SR 3/Tara Boulevard from 7 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.
I-85
· Two northbound lanes will close between SR 139/Riverdale Road and Virginia Avenue nightly from 9 p.m., until 5 a.m., starting Friday night until Monday morning.
· A rolling lane closure will take place on I-85 northbound and southbound between the Gwinnett County line and the I-75 interchange nightly from 9 p.m., until 6 a.m., Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night.
I-75/I-85 (Downtown Connector)
· Four southbound lanes and shoulder will close between SR 10/ Freedom Parkway and University Avenue nighty from 9 p.m., Friday until 9 a.m., Saturday; 9 p.m., Saturday until 9 a.m., Sunday; and from 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.
· Four northbound lanes and shoulder will close between University Avenue and SR 10/ Freedom Parkway from 9 p.m., Friday until 9 a.m., Saturday; 9 p.m., Saturday until 9 a.m., Sunday; and from 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.
Georgia (State Route) 400
· One northbound lane will close between MacFarland Road and SR 20/Buford Highway from 7 a.m., Saturday until 12 p.m., Monday.
Other State Routes
· One lane will close on Rex Road over I-675 and Evans Road over I-675 from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for bridge rehabilitation.
· On SR 8/Winder Highway one northbound and one southbound lane will close between Stanley Court and the Barrow County line from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday; 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday; and from 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.
· On SR 236/ Lavista Road, up to two southbound lanes will close between I-285 and Briarcliff Road from 8 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.
