The Fayette County government is announcing its lake cleanup event for local residents with kayaks and canoes to assist in protecting our water reservoirs. The program is called Water Guardians and the lake cleanup will occur Saturday, Oct. 1, 8:45-11 a.m.
The target area is Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City. It is vitally important to keep local water reservoirs clean of pollutants. Volunteers are asked to meet at the boat ramp parking lot at 110 Battery Way in Peachtree City.
Each new volunteer who registers with waterguardians@fayettecountyga.gov by Sept. 21 will be given a Water Guardians T-shirt at sign-in to wear during the event.
Previous participants are asked to wear their T-shirts to the event and register in order to have enough supplies on hand.
In accordance with lake rules, no one under age 14 is allowed to operate a kayak or canoe solo. All participants must have a life vest and everyone will be asked to sign a liability waiver in order to take part.
There is also a need for volunteers who can walk along the trails near the boat docks to pick up trash. Trash bags and trash grabbers are provided by Water Guardians.
To register for this event, send an email to WaterGuardians@fayettecountyga.gov and include your name, daytime phone number, contact email address and t-shirt size.
In the event of rain, a makeup date will be given by email.
