Longtime Fayetteville resident, Edna Whaley, passed away on Aug. 14, 2016, at her home on Sandy Creek Road. Her final days were spent at home with all of her loved ones by her side.

Ms. Whaley was born Sep. 5, 1930 in Fayette County, Ga. and graduated from Fayette County High School. She was an active member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. Ms. Whaley always taught her children and grandchildren to live by the way of God, for that was the only path to heaven. She was a very strong, hardworking, independent woman, who strived to be a positive role model in her children and grandchildren’s lives. She was an amazing mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother and will be forever missed.

Ms. Whaley is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Gwendolyn C. Phillips, Vianna R. and Jerry Wilkerson, and Deborah L. and Ed Mashburn; brothers and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Julia) Ivey, Mr. and Mrs. Billy (Carol) Moore, and Mr. and Mrs. Merrell(Dianna) Moore; sisters, Mrs. Betty (Don) Wicks, Phyllis Massengale and Edith Moore; grandchildren, Shannon Walden, Micah (Kristen) Walden, Tricia Wilkerson, Vianna (Brian) Ross, Keri M. Davis, and Kristofer W. Davis; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great- great granddaughter; and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Richard L. Whaley; parents, Claude Rufus Ivey and Eva Lee Moore; sister, Josephine Ivey; grandsons, James E. Worley, JR. and Matthew R. Worley; granddaughter, Melissa C. Patrick; and great-grandson Conner Charles Patrick. Her funeral was held Tuesday, August 16 at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Ga. The visitation was at 1 p.m. and the funeral followed at 3 p.m.. Burial was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The service was officiated by Rev. Colin Duncan.
