Barbara Geneva Center Marsh, 81, of Fayetteville, Ga. passed away on August 15, 2016.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 28, 1935 to Joseph Hayden Center and Geneva Darwin Center. After graduating from Marshall County High School in Lewisburg, Tenn., she worked in the emerging computer field for Nashville’s National Life and Accident Insurance Company, owners of WSM. She married Samuel Theodore Marsh, Jr. (Ted) in 1957.
After their first child was born in 1959, Barbara left her career to create a warm and nurturing home. She made time amid Ted’s many Western Auto corporate moves for creative pursuits, including sewing, music, literature, and crafts. An active church member, she taught Sunday School and served in multiple women’s, children’s and missions ministries.
In 1971 Barbara and Ted moved to Fayetteville, where they later opened, owned and operated a Western Auto store in their “adopted” hometown. For many years Barbara employed her considerable managerial skills in that family business.
She then enjoyed an active retirement that included family, friends, travel, painting, and church work, most recently at Fayetteville’s National Heights Baptist Church. In 2014, Ted and Barbara moved to Somerby Assisted Living in Peachtree City.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ila Center Callens.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ted Marsh; brother Hayden Darwin (Joyce) Center, Sr; brother-in-law John Thomas Marsh; children Jeanie (Glenn) Marsh McLean and Dana Theodore Marsh; grandchildren Kathy (David) McLean Black; Laura (Drew) McLean Roy; Robert Theodore Marsh; Maria Rose Marsh; and beloved nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Carl J Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City. A graveside service will be held the same day at 3 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City.
