Hubert Eugene “Gene” Jones Jr. passed into the presence of the Lord on Monday, August 1st, 2016 at the age of 83.
He was born May 19th 1933 in Rome, Ga. He grew up in Rome and graduated from Berry College. Soon after graduating from college he was drafted into the Navy and spent most of his career on aircraft carriers traveling to many different parts of the world. While in the Navy, he married his college sweetheart, Janice Moses Jones. They were married for 59 years. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he and his wife settled down in Decatur, Ga. and raised two sons. His career was in the printing industry, and eventually he started his own company. He loved to fish, tell jokes (most were funny), and spend time with his family. Most of his life he and his wife lived in Georgia until they retired and moved to Ocala, Fla. in 1999. In retirement he enjoyed building scale model sailing ships, square dancing and traveling with Janice.
His wife, Janice Moses Jones, precedes him in death. Surviving are his two sons, Anthony Jones, (Robin) of Houston Texas; Stephen Jones, (Laura) of Peachtree City Ga.; five grandchildren, Nathan, Kristin, Phillip, Tim and Alaina; and two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Lucas.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, Ga.
