Mr. Robert Daniel “Dan” Frazier, age 77 of Fayetteville, went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, joining his parents, Orabel and Eddie Frazier; brother, Eddie Frazier, Jr.; and sister, Edna MacMurrain.

He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Betty Whitaker Couey Frazier; children and their spouses, Rachel and Jason Holmes, Robin Taylor, Robert Frazier, Jr., Rodgers and Pam Frazier, Rebecca and Denny Arrant, and stepdaughter, Kristin Couey Patterson; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Iris Ward of Elberton, Ga.

Dan grew up on a dairy farm in Sparta, Ga. He graduated from the University of Georgia. Dan had a rewarding 22 plus year career in the United States Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1985. He was highly decorated with numerous medals and awards including the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. He served two tours in Vietnam and was badly wounded in combat as documented in a video entitled, “Shootout!: Tet Offensive” that aired on the history channel. While in the Army, he obtained a master’s degree from the University of Central Michigan. A great blessing from his military career was the opportunity to adopt his daughter, Rachel while he was based in Korea.

Golf was Dan’s favorite enjoyment most of his adult life. After retirement, he played golf three days a week at Cannongate Golf Course with three partners, Jack Burnett, Pete Thompson, and Fred Burdeshaw, who were affectionately known as the “Fearsome Foursome.” He went on annual golfing trips with another group, including special friends, Mike and Kelly Daniel, Owen Hand, and Charles Sanders.

Also, during retirement, he became a volunteer master gardener through the University System’s Cooperative Extension College of Agricultural and Environmental Services. Because he held a Forestry Degree from the University of Georgia, he was assigned the area of tree management and became known as the Master Gardeners “tree expert” and made numerous visits to the homes of Fayette County residents, offering advice on the health of trees. He was awarded “Lifetime Georgia Master Gardener” by the University.  He was also an active participant in the Homeowners Association of The Oaks of Fayette County.

Much of his time was devoted to serving as manager of Rachel’s Lightening Soccer Club. He also joined a group of veteran’s called “Voice of Veterans” who did presentations at local area schools on patriotism. Dan enjoyed Bible study and was the substitute teacher of men’s classes at Corinth Baptist Church and Fayetteville First Baptist Church.

Dan led a very active life with all these activities until Alzheimer’s Disease made its presence in his life in 2011, and made it impossible for him to continue.

A visitation for Mr. Dan Frazier was on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Fayetteville. Following the visitation, a funeral service was conducted in the chapel. Pastor Glen Stringham officiated. Interment was on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. with full military honors.

Those wishing to make donations, the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center E., Suite 3550, Atlanta, Ga. 30346 is suggested, in lieu of flowers in memory of Dan.
