Market Day in downtown Fayetteville always provides the chance to find a bargin. Yet on June 18 the event included a marriage proposal to one of the vendors.
Katherine Sumpter, 32, has been a vendor at Market Day and at Shakerag in Peachtree City for the past few years. The Marietta resident for the past three years has been customarily joined at the events by 32-year-old Riverdale friend Crystan Rider after they met at a friend’s house.
The two certainly had the bond of friendship, yet it was on June 18 as they were setting up Sumpter’s fabric and photography booth on the old courthouse lawn that something else happened.
“We were getting everything set up and he grabbed my hand and had a ring and said, ‘Let’s do this together,’” Sumpter said excitedly, adding that her answer was “Yes.”
With no need to hold back their excitement and amid the well-wishes of others who realized what had happened, the couple said they plan to have a fall wedding next year.
