Work has already begun on filling cleaning buckets for families caught in a disaster as part of the mission of Surf Shack VBS, to be held at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, June 20-24, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. each day. Cost is $10 and includes a CD and T-shirt.

Each year the children at VBS are invited to share with others through a mission project. This year, the church and community are encouraged to fill cleaning buckets which will be stored at the United Methodist Committee on Relief depot and ready for use around the United States.

The buckets are distributed by UMCOR in areas struck by disaster such as flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. The cleaning supplies in each bucket, necessary items including wipes, trash bags, sponges, cleaners, clothes line/pins and gloves, can help a family begin the initial stages of recovery.

Each VBS class will aim to fill a bucket with the supplies (about $60 worth) and extra buckets and instruction lists are available in the church welcome center for anyone to take and fill. Details are online at fayettevillefirst.com.
