Donald L. Ventura of Peachtree City, Ga., age 87, formally of Succasunna, N.J. passed away on June 7th after a short illness.
Born and raised in New Bedford, Mass., he was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1946 to 1949 as a radioman with the Fleet Marine Force aboard the flagship of the 7th Fleet, USS Estes, AGC-12 throughout the Far East including duty in Japan, China, Taiwan and the Philippines. After his tour in the Marine Corps he attended college at the Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass. earning a degree in Industrial Electronics. Upon completion of college he began his 32 year career with Bell Labs and AT&T, retiring in 1985.
Moving to Peachtree City in 1994, he enjoyed the retirement years with his many friends and family. He loved to play piano, golf, read, do crossword puzzles and watch Braves baseball. He greatly enjoyed serving his community and his volunteer work through Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marilyn; children Michael and wife Donna of Columbia, N.J.; Thomas of Corona, Calif., Martin and wife Sheri of Newton, N.J. and daughter Lauren of Bayville, N.J.; beloved grandchildren Brandon, Michael, Thomas, Emily, Matthew and Daniel. He is also survived by his loving sister MaryAnn Guerette of Fairhaven, Mass. and many nieces and nephews.
A mass and celebration of his life was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City on June 10th at 10 a.m. with interment to follow at a later time in Fairhaven, Mass. The family received friends Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home in Peachtree City.
