Rose show coming up

The South Metro Rose Society is putting the final touches on preparations for its 31st Annual Rose Show May 14-15 at Fayetteville Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 870 Redwine Road. A judged rose exhibition will kick off the weekend, beginning at 10 a.m. May 14. Local rose growers are invited to display their roses for ribbons and prizes.

Members of the society will advise newcomers on entering their roses by calling the number below and will give hands-on assistance on the day of the show. Entries can be made at the show site from 5:30-9:30 a.m. for judging. Show admission and parking are free to the public from 1-4 p.m. on both days to view, smell, and photograph hundreds of roses and rose arrangements on display.

Rose bouquets will be sold and ARS Consulting Rosarians will give out easy-to-understand rose growing information. Items to be raffled include a restaurant gift certificates, Pike’s and Autumn Hill Nursery gift certificates, miniature and large rose bushes, gardening equipment, and more.

South Metro Rose Society is affiliated with the American Rose Society located in Shreveport, La. SMRS meets on the fourth Monday of Jan.-Apr. and Aug.-Oct. at The Heritage Bank, 440 N. Jeff Davis Dr. in Fayetteville. All rose enthusiasts, especially novices, are invited to visit the meetings at no charge. For more information call 770-631-3885.
