School lunches across the county featured a couple of special menu items on the day of Mardi Gras compliments of the Fayette County Public School System’s School Nutrition Program (SNP).

SNP staff at all schools cooked up Shrimp Po Boy sandwiches and King Cakes, two traditional foods that are typically part of Mardi Gras celebrations on the day before the start of Lent.

SNP staff at some schools went all out, decorating the school cafeterias and donning festive masquerade masks and beads as they served students coming through the lunch lines.

From left, Fayetteville Elementary School Nutrition Program staffers Sylvia Grayer, Patrizia Mattesco, Doris Ng, Stacey Green and Tanya Wilson get into the spirit of Mardi Gras as student Aiden Joseph shows off the special menu items they cooked for the celebration.
