Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville is one of a number of film studios making an impact in communities around Georgia. The studio’s first production, Marvel Studios “Ant-Man,” spent $106 million on the production, provided employment for more than 3,700 Georgians and resulted in 22,000 hotel rooms used.
As Pinewood Atlanta’s first movie, Ant-Man was considered a “tent pole” movie with more than $150 million production costs.
According to the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office (GFMDEO),the production spent more than $106 million while filming in Georgia. In terms of employment, the film office said 3,759 Georgians were employed to help film the movie.
And while concrete figures pertaining to the local economic impact in Fayetteville and Fayette County are not available, the film office said more than 22,000 hotel rooms housed the production crew for three months.
Currently underway at Pinewood Atlanta is Marvel Studio’s “Captain America: Civil War,” which is expected to open in theaters on May 6, 2016 with “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” opening in May 2017.
From July 2013 through June 2014, GFMDEO said the total value of all production budgets statewide totaled $1.4 billion from 158 feature films and television projects statewide. The economic impact of those productions was $5.1 billion.
Across Georgia, GFMDEO said 13 film and television facilities made announcement to locate or expand in the state. And since 2008, more than 100 companies have relocated or expanded in the state. Those include equipment, lighting, catering, casting and trucking companies. More than 30 of those companies are located at Pinewood Atlanta Studios.
