Research has proven that if families are involved in their children’s education, they will achieve academic success. With that in mind, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teachers and families from four elementary schools recently spent an afternoon at Picnic Park/All Children’s Playground in Peachtree City talking about important school-related information in a fun and relaxed environment.
More than 30 international families representing 96 family members from Braelinn Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, Huddleston Elementary and Peeples Elementary, along with ESOL teachers from the schools, met at the park Oct. 22 to discuss topics related to reading such as the curriculum standards, selecting the right books, and homework tips.
This marked the fourth multi-school ESOL Parent Outreach event hosted by the schools, with Peeples Elementary joining for the first time this year. Invitations were sent to all ESOL families at the schools. The outreach program aims to minimize linguistic and cultural barriers so that international parents can engage in, and support and improve their students’ academic achievement.
