A former high school star in Fayette County has taken her volleyball prowess to the college level in the Southeastern Conference with considerable success.
Breana Jones, a 6-2 junior from McIntosh, is a mainstay for the Arkansas Razorbacks who has been making an impact since her freshman year. She entered this weekend ranked second in the league and seventh in the NCAA with a .430 hitting percentage.
Jones qualified for national ranking with a career-high 26 attacks against Alabama, finishing that match with 13 kills. She has tallied seven or more kills nine times this season and is hitting .463 with just 10 attack errors in those matches. In the Razorbacks’ last three outings, she has totaled 37 kills including a career-high 15 at South Carolina two weeks ago.
A 2013 graduate of McIntosh, Jones was ranked 52nd in the nation amount volleyball recruits that year. She led the Lady Chiefs to the state runner-up spot as a senior and was a member of All-Area, Senior All-Star and All-State teams according to McIntosh head coach Wendy Mabon.
“Breana was definitely one of the best volleyball players to come out of McIntosh. She’s not only a great player on the court, but an outstanding young woman as well,” said Mabon. “I’m so proud of her success at Arkansas and know that she’ll be successful at whatever she puts her mind to.”
