The first, but probably not the only hotel near Pinewood Studios, could move one step closer to reality Thursday night.

The Fayetteville City Council will conduct the second public hearing on a proposal for a Holiday Inn Express at 1231 West Ga. Highway 54

Developer Kamlesh Patel said the new hotel will feature between 87-93 rooms, and there will also be an upscale restaurant located on the site.

The hotel fronts Hwy. 54 and is meant to add a more urban feel to the environment, according to Patel. Once the new hotel is completed, the current downtown hotel would no longer be branded a Holiday Inn Express.

In other items, the council will consider an amendment to the litter ordinance. According to staff reports, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division is requiring city and county governments to tighten their litter control ordinances to help keep construction wastes from impacting the environment. The requirement to update the city’s ordinance is part of the city’s stormwater management plan.

The council will also consider if some grant funds should be transferred to the Ga. Highway 92 roundabout project. The city has accumulated just over $400,000 in grant funds for the repaving of North Jeff Davis Drive, but wants to shift the funds to the roundabout project.
