Mary Elizabeth (Peggy) Perkins, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Born in Walton County, Georgia, to Thomas Arthur Milligan and Martha McCullers Milligan, Peggy was predeceased by her parents, brothers Melvin Milligan and Clarence Milligan, and sister Polly Lovin.

Peggy spent her childhood on a beautiful farm near Monroe before marrying James Gilbert Perkins of Savannah, Ga., in 1952. As a young couple, they were stationed in Hawaii while Gil was in the Navy and moved back to Georgia in 1954 to establish their home and raise four children. Gil had a lifelong career with Delta Airlines, and Peggy continued to support the company after his sudden passing at the age of 46. Peggy loved her work in the real estate field and served with Wall Realty, Tri-Cities Realty, and Coldwell Banker Realty. Prior to her death, she was proud to work with Coldwell Banker Fulton Realty in Peachtree City.

Peggy was known best for being a friend to all. Beyond her biological family, many considered her a mother or grandmother figure in their lives. She also had a profound love for animals and rescued many over her lifetime, including most recently her loyal dog Daisy. Peggy was a member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, a strong supporter of the Republican Party, and an engaged and active citizen. Her bright spirit was recognized throughout her community.

She was very passionate about her work, her country, her community, her church, and her politics. But her greatest passion was her love of family.

She is survived by: son Don Perkins and his wife Linda of Locust Grove; son Greg Perkins and his wife Jennifer of Peachtree City; daughter Gloria Vaughan and her husband Richard of Vinings; daughter Sharon Lynch and her husband Dan of Senoia; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was watching them each grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and sharing in their happiness. She was a brilliant light in the lives of all who were privileged to know her and will be sorely missed.

A celebration of Peggy’s life  was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Christ our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City, with Rev. Fritz Wiese and Rev. Miriam Beecher officiating. The family  received friends at a reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
