Things are right on schedule for the 130,000-square-foot expansion project at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, according to hospital officials.
The project, which originally included 27 new exam rooms in the emergency department and a second inpatient floor, now involves construction of a third floor with 30 additional inpatient beds.
“It’s impressive to see the work that’s been done so far and I think the progress will be even more evident and exciting when people start to see steel,” said Piedmont Fayette CEO Michael Burnett.
Ever since the groundbreaking this past June, construction crews have been on site six days per week. Crews have installed a new storm water line and storm water vault. They also recently completed the excavation for the basement, allowing 460 geopiers – or stiff, rock columns – to be installed.
“The expansion project is moving along quite nicely,” said Burnett. “Typical issues like noise disruptions and parking challenges that you might find with construction projects like this have been minimal.”
Construction on the expanded emergency department should be completed by September 2016. The remaining projects associated with this expansion will be done in 2017.
