Ret. Army Sgt. William Jethroe Fowler, Jr., 68, of Williamson, Ga., died of complications of kidney, liver, congestive heart failure, and diabetes at Spalding Regional Hospital on October 6, 2015. He was born on December 21, 1946, at Fort Scott, Kansas, the youngest child and only son of William Jethroe Fowler, Sr. and Marian McWhorter Fowler.
  

He grew up in East Point, Ga. and attended Georgia Military Academy, Headland High School, and Barnesville Military Academy before joining the U.S. Army in 1964. He served with HHS 519th MI BN, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Staff metal, Vietnam Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Purple Heart First Oak Leaf Cluster, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Master Parachute Badge, Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, USA Recruiter Badge with 2 Gold Stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and NCO Professional Ribbon. He served four tours in Vietnam and Retired 1SGT in 1985.
 

He was preceded in death by his father in 1975. He is survived by one son, William Marcum Fowler of Florida, mother Marian (Madge) Fowler of Williamson, sisters Judy Kilgore of Newnan and Kay (Bobby) Polk of Peachtree City, nieces and nephews Davida Kilgore Atkins, Kelly Polk Pinholster, Jason Polk and Justin Polk, several great nieces and nephews, and special, dear friends Joye and Larry Evans of Austell.
 

A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be announced at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, Ga.
