Fellow Fayette County citizens, I am so sad that we have had a special election for a new 5th District county commissioner, which has disenfranchised so many citizens.
I was an official poll watcher at Precinct 29 polling location for the entire time on Sept. 15. To my dismay, so many residents came in to vote but were turned away because of the district voting guidelines.
District voting, with a single federal-judge-approved map, has caused division: streets, neighborhoods, and other precinct county residents were not allowed to vote. Ethnicity, race, religion, gender, age, etc., were all affected. Even one individual failed to exercise their right to vote at their precinct.
District voting is destructive. A county divided is weakened, and as a 30-year-resident of Fayette County, who has lived in Precinct 3 and Precinct 30, I am upset with federal judges overlooking the states’ and peoples’ rights guarantied by the U.S. Constitution, 10th Amendment.
Please help us appeal this divisive gerrymandered district ruling.
