Oz Pizza in Fairburn is well-known to many residents of Fayette County. In the coming months Oz will also be known for its new location in Fayetteville.
Fayetteville Community Development Director Brian Wismer said the restaurant is expected to open in the next few months at 107 East Stonewall Avenue, on the courthouse square.
“This is very exciting and we believe they are excited to be here,” Wismer said, noting that the city has been nurturing a deal with Oz for the past five years.
“They liked the downtown properties,” Wismer said. “The timing and all the pieces worked out this time.”
The restaurant will be downtown on Stonewall next to the ice cream shop where a consignment store had been located.
“Oz has a great reputation” said Wismer. “And the menu is a great compliment to the existing dining choices in the downtown historic district.”
Wismer said the space total approximately 4,500 sq. ft and is expected to seat 60 inside and 30 in what will become a patio area.
Work in the coming months after final permitting approval will include renovating the interior and creating what is essentially a streetside patio that will be accomplished by retaining the current brick facade and roof and a portion of the front glass to open the restaurant patio area to the sidewalk. The main restaurant area will be recessed into the current building, Wismer said.
Maintaining much of the current look will bring balance to the downtown historic district, Wismer said.
