The Discovery Educator Network (DEN) has awarded Mark Henderson, math coordinator for Fayette County Public Schools, with a Leadership DENny for his volunteer work within the Discovery Education community.

DEN is a global community of district leaders, principals, and teachers passionate about teaching with digital media, sharing resources, collaborating, and networking. The DEN connects members and their ideas through social media, blogs, in-person events, and virtual conferences.

Shayla Rexrode, education partnerships manager for Discovery Education, credits Henderson with helping the organization identify areas for growth. In just one year, he helped to successfully host 100 teachers at a local DENapalooza (professional development event), as well as facilitate and host the first DEN Ambassador Program, designed to fully support teachers through community activities as they integrate digital media and technology into their teaching practice.

DEN recognizes its members who are regularly involved in the network’s activities with the annual DENny Awards in the areas of innovation, involvement, blogging, expertise, and leadership.

“Mark was recognized for his dedication to innovative teaching and learning, and ongoing professional involvement with the Discovery Education community. We are very excited for Mark,” said Rexrode.

Henderson was one of nine members selected to receive the leadership award. Award winners were chosen from hundreds of nominations nationwide.
