City removing damaged trees

Peachtree City’s tree contractor continues to work on the removal of trees throughout the community damaged in the microburst storm June 24.

Public Works crews have also been pulled from other duties (mowing, path paving, etc.) to work steadily on trees for the past two weeks, but still have a backlog of more than 100 work orders to address damaged or fallen trees on city property.

This includes a large oak tree on Robinson Road between Peachtree Parkway and Vardon Way. A 28-inch-diameter branch from this tree fell onto a Public Works truck during storm cleanup (the driver is okay), and an arborist has confirmed the trunk and limbs are diseased and rotted, endangering both drivers on Robinson Road and on the nearby path. The city’s tree contractor, Valley Crest Tree Care Services, will be removing the tree soon.

If you have reported a damaged or potentially hazardous tree in a city-owned greenbelt, city officials ask that you bear with them as staff and the contractor work through this backlog. If you need to report a damaged tree that poses a threat to people or private property, you may email info@peachtree-city.org with photos, if possible, the location of the tree (nearest street address, general location in relation to the address), and what property/street/path the tree may be blocking or threatening if it falls).

In general, the city allows trees in the greenbelt to die naturally and decay in place. However, some trunks are removed when multiple trees are damaged.

If you have damaged trees on your private property, a tree removal permit is NOT required to have them removed. For all other tree removals and a list of approved tree removal companies, visit http://www.peachtree-city.org/index.aspx?nid=487.
