Patriots bring home track title

The AAAA state boys track meet produced plenty of highlights for two local schools, with one taking the top team spot and the other only three points behind.

Sandy Creek finished with 42 points, edging out Marist and North Oconee who tied for second with 40. Right behind them was Whitewater with 39.

The Patriots capped off the day with a win in the 4×100-meter relay behind Korey Banks, Ian Barnes, Marvin Hubbard and Eric Swinney. The 4×400-meter relay team of Banks, Barnes, Hubbard and Collins Livinus finished sixth.

Hubbard won the 100-meter dash and was second in the 200-meter dash. Swinney came in fourth at 100 meters, Livinus was eighth in the 400-meter dash and Micheal Jones placed fourth in 110-meter hurdles.

Whitewater finished first in the 4×400-relay with team of Jonathon Womack, Matthew Grant, Langston Bryant and Lionel Jones. Womack came in sixth in the 200-meter dash and second in the 400-meter dash.

In the 1600-meter run Parker Nail was fifth and Harry Harp was ninth. Don Harp came in fifth in the 3200-meter run.

Bryant was fourth in the long jump, Hunter Griffin finished fifth in the shot put and Madias Loper came in eighth in the discus throw.

In AAAAA, Starr’s Mill tallied 26 points to tie with Union Grove for seventh. Southwest DeKalb was first with 58 points.

Cody Clements won the high jump and Ryan Spiecha won the shot put for the Panthers. Michael Runyon finished third in the pole vault.

Justin Brown of McIntosh came in seventh in the 800-meter run. The 4×400-meter relay team of Brown, JP Caldwell, Khadim Jones, Brandon McDowell, Giancarlo Vargas and Ethan Watson came in fourth.

Landmark finished fifth as a team in the A Private classification and Our Lady of Mercy was tenth. Athens Christian took the championship.

Stockton McGuire of Landmark was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, second in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the pole vault.

Austin Taylor came in ninth in the 3200-meter run while Brandon Stone finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles.

Titus Creamer was sixth in the pole vault and Drew Anderson was fourth in the shot put and second in the discus.

The War Eagles’ 4×100-meter relay team (McGuire, Stone, Joshua Cobb, Caleb Cobb, Taylor Snyder, Shelton Sutton) finished sixth, as did the 4×400-meter relay team (J. Cobb, Snyder, Stone, McGuire, Sutton, Creamer).

Grant Walker finished fourth in the triple jump for Our Lady of Mercy while Victor Cross came in seventh in the 300-meter hurdles. Jordan Thomas placed eighth in the shot put and third in discus. Sterling Laboo was eighth in the discus.
