Fayette Senior Services hosts its first-ever Volunteer Expo a few weeks ago, but it certainly won’t be the last.

“The response we had to this expo not only from organizations with volunteer programs, but also from people in our community wanting to give back and make a difference was much more than we expected,” said program development coordinator Morgan Lanier. “We understand the need for volunteers at FSS, and know that we aren’t the only ones out there that rely on them. We were so happy and honored to host a program that yielded such great results for everyone.”

The expo gave attendees a chance to come to one central location to speak with a wide range of community-based organizations that make a difference in the lives of those they serve, and discover which one best matched their interests and passions.

Each organization showcased volunteer and advocacy opportunities in areas where a single person could help be an agent of change. Of the organizations who participated, all shared a gratitude for the event being held. Each one agreed that they made great connections at the event and many reported a handful of new volunteer registration for their programs, FSS included.

“The feedback we received from some of the participating organizations was very positive, full of excitement about new contacts and new volunteers,” said volunteer coordinator Amy Epperson. “Everyone was also able to raise more awareness about their programs in the community. We are looking forward to growing the event for years to come.”

Participating organizations included Fayette Senior Services, Fayette Care Clinic, Promise Place, UGA Fayette Extension Office, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Special Olympics, Clothes Less Traveled, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Fayette Thrift Shop, Peachtree City Parks and Recreation, Fayette Humane Society, Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center, Alzheimer’s Association, Grandparents and Kin Raising Grandkids, and United Way.

FSS plans to continue to host an annual Volunteer Expo each year during National Volunteer Week.
