Olivet to host forum on youth and law enforcement

In response to nationwide incidents involving police and citizen Interactions, The Olivet Church is sponsoring a forum to educate youth on making proper choices when interacting with law enforcement officers.

The forum which will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. will highlight “Know Your Rights — Exercise Common Sense.”

The event will be held at the Olivet church campus, 877 Ga. Highway 314 North, Fayetteville.

Various law enforcement officers have been invited to participate as panelists to collaborate with youth about their roles in communities.

The overall goal is to change the perceptions or realities that interfacing with law enforcement is an embarrassing, frightening and dangerous experience.

Through proper education and meaningful dialogue, the forum emphasizes understanding constitutional rights and exercising common sense actions to reduce claims of abusive policing and/or unlawful behaviors by a citizen.

This event is open to the public. Lunch will be served.
