Pastor Glenn Stringham announced to the congregation of Fayetteville First Baptist Church his intention to retire from his position as pastor to senior adults effective Jan. 31. He has served the church in that position for nearly 19 years.
The church will host a farewell fellowship in honor of Stringham and his family Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. Their community of friends is invited.
Stringham and his family moved to Fayetteville from Hawaii where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. While there he served on staff of First Southern Baptist Church of Pearl Harbor.
Stringham served as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Jonesboro for 10 years prior to joining the staff of Fayetteville first Baptist. During his tenure he has led groups from the congregation on mission ministries to various places in the United States and overseas. He has served as a volunteer disaster relief first responder and helped rebuild schools in Thailand following the Indonesian Tsunami.
While serving FFBC, Stringham has also served the Fayette Community. He has organized and led the efforts of the annual “Salute to Veterans” which has become one of the biggest veteran programs in the community and he has worked with local schools to help families needing assistance at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
He has coordinated building ramps for the handicapped throughout the Fayette area and has led worship services at LaFayette Nursing Home for over 18 years and Azalea Estates Assisted Living for over 15 years.
Stringham retired from the U.S. Army after serving more than 22 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 as a private and retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in Viet Nam and many other places around the world. His military service has given him and his family opportunities to paster churches as a bi-vocational pastor in Illinois, Maryland, Alabama, Georgia and on staff at other churches where they were stationed.
Stringham and his wife, Phyllis (of over 48 years) have three children, two daughters, Leslie Longstreth, and Sarah Vessell both of Fayetteville and one son, Kevin of LaGrange. They are blessed with 10 grandchildren.
Following retirement the Stringhams have some travel plans but do not plan to move out of the Fayette County area.
