Mary H. Meyer of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away on Sun., Dec. 21, 2014, at the age of 85. She was the oldest daughter of the late Lester R. and Maxie Lanier Hooks of Millen, Ga.
She retired in 1983 from Southern Bell (now AT&T) after 36 years of service. She began her career as a senior in high school and was a switchboard operator, a Service Representative, and retired as a Business Service Representative. She worked in Millen, Augusta, and Atlanta, Ga., during her career.
She was fiercely independent and dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, luncheons each month with the GEMS in Peachtree City, was a former member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church and the Telephone Pioneers.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Harris; her husband, Hugh L. Meyer, Sr., of Augusta, Ga.; her mother and father; brothers, Franklin D. and Sidney A. Hooks; and sisters, Maxine Hooks, and Shirley H. Crawford.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Harris Wagnon (Michael) of Fayetteville, Ga.; her grandsons, John Michael Wagnon (Carrie) of Houston, Texas, Christopher Sean Wagnon (Michelle) of Peachtree City, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Cason John, Kenslie Jean, Nathan Robert, and Leah Madeleine. She is also survived by her sisters, Rebecca H. Barbel of Fayetteville, Ga., and Hattie L. Cochran of Blue Ridge, Ga.; and her brother, Lester R. Hooks of Millen, Ga.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sat., Jan. 3, 2015, in the chapel of Carmichael Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Ga., with the Rev. Sean Robinson officiating.
