A Riverdale man was arrested on Dec. 14 on charges stemming from his attempt to fill fraudulent prescriptions at the Crosstown Kroger grocery store then fleeing from officers who were called to the scene, police said.
Andrew Menjor, 24, was charged with felony obstruction and felony attempting to obtain dangerous drugs by fraud and is being held in the Fayette County Jail, according to Peachtree City Police reports.
One of the shoppers at the store, Peachtree City resident Kimberly Hahn, said she was near the check-out lane when she heard a noise and subsequently saw a display of Santa Claus hats get knocked over.
Hahn said she heard a noise that sounded like a taser and saw a male running, only to be subdued by a police officer.
Hahn said a “Good Samaritan” in the store attempted to stop the man before officers could subdue him at the store’s entrance door where he “got tased.”
“It all happened so fast,” Hahn said, commenting on the number of police officers, firefighters and ambulance crews that responded to the scene.
The incident occurred on Dec. 14 at approximately 2 p.m. when officers responded to the Kroger store in reference to an individual attempting to fill fraudulent prescriptions, according to police reports.
Officers met with the pharmacist and it was determined that the prescriptions were fraudulent. The man who attempted to fill the prescription was approached in Kroger and fled in the store, according to reports.
Officers were required to deploy their tasers to attempt to subdue Menjor. After he was taken into custody and was being evaluated by medics, Menjor broke free and fled again from the medics and officers, reports said.
Officers pursued Menjor on foot and by vehicle from Kroger to the multi-use path behind Crosstown Court where he was apprehended again without incident, reports said.
