A Peachtree City family was not at home on Dec. 13 when a mid-morning house fire caused significant damage to the house. A family dog did not survive the fire.
Peachtree City Fire Department spokesman Ron Mundy said the fire at 129 Burnham Rise on the city’s south side was reported just after 10 a.m.
Units arrived within five minutes to find a heavily involved fire with heavy flames in the kitchen area, Mundy said. He said a vehicle was in the driveway so firefighters did a search but found no one at home.
The Simoncini family had been at a school function and arrived home about 30 minutes after firefighters began fighting the blaze.
Mundy said firefighters rescued numerous reptiles and domestic animals from the home, including a python that was subsequently resuscitated using a kit carried by firefighters specifically for providing oxygen to animals of various sizes.
The damage to the home was significant, said Mundy. A family dog died in the fire, Mundy added.
Mundy said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Simoncini family is currently with relatives in Columbus, according to the Peachtree City Police Dept.
