Walmart regional officials decided not to evacuate the store

Notification of a bomb threat at the Peachtree City Walmart Wednesday afternoon was one of a number of similar threats made against other Walmart stores in the region. Peachtree City police and fire units responded but left the scene after Walmart corporate officials decided not to evacuate the store.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesperson Odilia Bergh said a shift supervisor at the Walmart on Ga. Highway 54 West called at approximately 4:55 p.m. to report that the store had received a bomb threat. Police and fire units then responded to the store, Bergh said.

Bergh said the supervisor spoke with a manager at the store who told him other Walmart locations in the region had also received similar threats.

The supervisor called back within minutes after Walmart regional officials were contacted. Officers were advised that the store would not be evacuated, said Bergh.

Similar threats were also reported at Walmart locations across the region, including at a Walmart in Cobb County, Bergh said.

Bergh said it is always up to a business to decide whether or not to evacuate.

Police and fire units left the area once the decision was made, Bergh said.
